TYLER, Texas – Zion Young scored 20 points to lead three Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks in double figures, but the Seahawks dropped an 85-75 decision to host Tyler Junior College in a Region XIV men's basketball game on Saturday.
Young was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line for LSCPA (7-5 overall, 1-3 Region XIV). Nisani Mendez netted 14 points for the Seahawks, while Isaiah Brooks finished with 10 points. As a team, LSCPA was 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) from the charity stripe for the game.
Caden Bell led Tyler (7-4, 2-2) with 24 points. Bell drained five 3-pointers on the evening. Tyler led 35-25 at halftime.
The Seahawks are idle until the new year when they host Navarro College at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3 in the Carl Parker Center.
