PORT ARTHUR, Texas – Christian Andrews had game highs of 18 points and six assists, but the Lamar State College Seahawks couldn't overcome a cold night from the floor as they dropped a 68-56 decision to the visiting Lee College Navigators in a Region XIV men's basketball game at the Carl Parker Multipurpose Center on Wednesday night.
It was just the second loss this season in 12 home games for the Seahawks (10-9 overall, 4-7 Region XIV). LSCPA shot just 30.8 percent (20-of-65) from the field on the night, including 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from 3-point range.
"We struggled with our shooting tonight," LSCPA coach Lance Madison admitted. "It was just one of those nights."
The Seahawks were 11-of-13 (84.6 percent) from the free-throw line, with all 13 attempts coming in the second half. The Seahawks trailed 30-21 at halftime and couldn't get any closer than five points in the second half. Zion Young had 13 points for LSCPA, while Hayden Underwood added nine points. Martins Adonry had a game-high 12 rebounds in the loss.
Mohn Tounkara had 16 points to lead Lee (12-7, 7-4). Jayden Thomas had 13 points, Shamiere Green had 11 points, and Josh Smith notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
"Lee is a very quick and athletic team," Madison said. "They had a great transition game, which led to some easy buckets."
The Seahawks return to action at noon Saturday when they travel to nationally ranked Trinity Valley. LSPCA stunned the then seventh-ranked Cardinals with a 61-55 win at the Carl Parker Multipurpose Center on Jan. 17.
"That will definitely be a challenge in a tough environment," Madison said. "You know they want revenge."
The Seahawks return home to host Coastal Bend at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 before entertaining Paris Junior College for Homecoming at 2 p.m. Feb. 7.
