Seahawks fall to 9th-ranked Trinity Valley

ATHENS, Texas – Zion Young scored 17 points, but the Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks saw their hopes for a season sweep of the ninth-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals fall short, as Trinity Valley claimed an 87-61 over the visiting Seahawks in a Region XIV men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon.
Nisani Mendez added 14 points for the Seahawks (10-10 overall, 4-8 Region XIV). Isaiah Brooks contributed eight points and a team-high five rebounds in the loss.
Armani Henderson led Trinity Valley (17-3, 10-2). The Cardinals had a 45-27 advantage at intermission and led by as many as 38 points in the second half.
LSCPA shocked the Cardinals by a 61-55 score in Port Arthur on Jan. 17.
The Seahawks open a two-game homestand by hosting Coastal Bend College at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Carl Parker Multipurpose Center before entertaining Paris Junior College in the annual Homecoming game at 2 p.m. Feb. 7.
