PORT ARTHUR, Texas – Lamar State College Port Arthur sophomore center Martins Adonry had a double-double that included a career-high 20 rebounds and was named LSCPA's Homecoming king, but the shorthanded Seahawks dropped an 88-80 decision to the visiting Paris Junior College Dragons in a Region XIV men's basketball game on Saturday.
Adonry had 17 points to go along with his 20 rebounds for his team-leading seventh double-double of the season. Adonry's 20 rebounds were one shy of the school record of 21 set by Joe Lucien against Coastal Bend in the 2021-22 season.
"Martins had a tremendous game today," Seahawks coach Lance Madison said. "He has been playing really well for us lately."
The Seahawks (11-11 overall, 5-9 Region XIV) were without the services of sophomore forward Isaiah Brooks, who suffered an injury in Wednesday's win over Coastal Bend. Brooks is averaging 9.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game this season.
"Not having Isaiah hurt us," Madison said. "But give Paris credit. They played better than us. They hit some big 3-pointers and forced us into some key turnovers."
Adonry was just one of four Seahawks to score in double figures for the game. Nisani Mendez had a game-high 20 points, Christian Andrews netted 18 points, and Zion Young added 12 points.
The Dragons (11-10, 6-7) had five players score in double figures, led by Otis Carter Jr., who had 18 points. Paris shot 51.5 percent (34-of-66) from the field, including 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from 3-point range. Samuel Cole drained five 3-pointers on eight attempts for the Dragons.
"It was a good game," Madison said. "It was a great atmosphere. We got close at the end, but just didn't have enough."
The Seahawks are at Panola College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday before returning home to host Tyler Junior College at 4 p.m. on Valentine's Day.
