PORT ARTHUR, Texas – Zion Young scored a season-high 24 points, but it wasn't enough for the Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks as they dropped a 78-62 decision to the visiting Tyler Junior College Apaches in a Region XIV men's basketball game on Saturday.

Young was 9-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range for the Seahawks (11-13 overall, 5-11 Region XIV). Martins Adonry had 14 points for LSCPA and tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds.

The Seahawks were once again without sophomore forward Isaiah Brooks, who averages 9.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, due to injury. Christian Andrews had five assists for LSCPA.

"Missing Isaiah definitely hurts," LSCPA coach Lance Madison said. "We're down to seven players, and we got a little tired at the end, but give Tyler credit. They're one of the top teams in the region and they showed why."

Chris Uwayo Jr. led Tyler (17-8, 11-6) with 14 points and five assists. Caden Bell had 13 points, while Josiah Hill had 11 points and seven rebounds. The Apaches held a 35-24 rebounding advantage.

"That's the first time I can remember getting outrebounded like that this season," Madison said. "Tyler is a very good team."

Tyler led 35-25 at halftime. The Seahawks stayed close for most of the second half, before fatigue set in, as Tyler pulled away down the stretch.

LSCPA returns to action at Blinn College at 7 p.m. Wednesday before returning home to host Kilgore College, the Region XIV leaders, at 4 p.m. Feb. 21.

"It doesn't get any easier for us," Madison said. "We just have to give it our best."
