BAYTOWN, Texas – Christian Andrews scored 29 points, the most by any Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks player this season, but it wasn't enough for the Seahawks in a 78-62 loss to the host Lee College Navigators in the first round of the Region XIV Men's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.
Andrews was 8-of-11 from the floor, including 2-of-2 from 3-point range for the 10th-seeded Seahawks. Andrews went 11-of-14 from the line for LSCPA, which ends its season at 13-18, a nine-win improvement from the 2024-25 season. The Seahawks, who were hit hard by the injury bug this season, had just seven healthy players for the tournament.
"I'm very proud of the way this team just never gave up," LSCPA coach Lance Madison said. "They gave it everything they had."
J'Mar Franklin added 11 points for the Seahawks, while Nisani Mendez came off the bench to score nine points. The Seahawks trailed 47-25 at halftime but outscored the Navigators 37-31 after intermission. Lee dominated the boards, outrebounding LSCPA 39-15.
Shamiere Green led Lee (17-14) with 22 points. Jayden Thomas scored 10 points, while Moh Tounkara finished with seven points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Lee advances to face second-seeded Kilgore in the quarterfinals Thursday at Lee. The semifinals are on Friday, with the championship game slated for 4 p.m. Saturday at Lee.
