Chipola takes 22-5 home tourney win over Seahawks

Chipola College made good use of their home-field advantage, taking a 22-5, five-inning win over LSCPA in the second day of Chipola's home tournament.

Chipola took an early 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning when the Seahawks picked up their first run of the game.

Following a one-out single by Alexa Garza and a double by Celeste Salazar, Kayci Spittler singled  to plate Salazar, representing the single run coming out of the inning for the Hawks.

The Seahawks added two more runs in the bottom of the third to cut the Chipola lead to 4-3.

LeeAnn Hinojosa opened the inning with a single and Cameron Niedenthal put runners at first and second. A double-steal moved Hinojosa to third and Niedenthal to second, giving Kaitlynn Samarripa the opportunity to pick up the two-run, two-out single for the 4-3 difference.

After that, it was pretty much Chipola's game. After scoring four runs in the fourth, Chipola added 14 more in the top of the fifth for the 22-3 lead.

The Hawks picked up two runs in the bottom of the fifth before the game was called on the tournament run rule.

Brianna Ramirez led off the fifth with a single for the Seahawks. Niedenthal put a shot over the left field fence for a two-run home run for the 22-5 difference in the game.

Niedenthal was the only Seahawks hitter with multiple base hits, going 2 for 2 with two RBIs, a walk, and two runs scored as LSCPA managed seven hits in the game.

Samarripa worked four innings in the circle, allowing eight earned runs on six hits with seven walks and two strikeouts. Alexa Garza pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing no earned runs on two hits.
