RAYMOND, Mississippi- The Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks earned a hard‑fought 8–6 victory in the opening game of Friday's doubleheader at Hinds Community College before falling 9–1 in the second contest. The win lifts LSCPA to 4–8 on the season as the team prepares for a Saturday matchup at Holmes Community College.

Game 1: Late-Inning Push Secures an 8–6 Win

LSCPA set the tone early in the first inning when Marissa Montoya delivered a sacrifice fly and Mallory Cheek followed with a run‑scoring groundout. Hinds answered with two runs in the bottom half, but the Seahawks continued to match the Eagles throughout the game.

In the fifth inning, Sierra Perez doubled to drive in a run, and Sophia Kimble added an RBI single to pull the Seahawks even once again. The decisive moment came in the sixth when Alyssa Lewis tripled to center to bring home the go‑ahead run. Lewis then stole home to extend the lead, giving LSCPA the separation it needed.

Aubre Fuller went the distance in the circle, allowing six runs on 12 hits while striking out three and walking one. The Seahawks showed patience at the plate, drawing five walks and collecting key hits from Lewis, Kimble, and Perez, who led the team with two runs batted in.

Game 2: Competitive At-Bats Despite 9–1 Final

Hinds gained early control in the second game, capitalizing on a pair of LSCPA errors in the second inning and adding a home run in the third. Despite the early deficit, the Seahawks continued to compete at the plate and produced four hits.

Abigail Moreno drove in the team's lone run and finished 1-for-3. Lewis, Quinn Zaragoza, and Adeija Montalvo each added a hit, giving LSCPA steady contact throughout the lineup. The Seahawks continued to put runners on base and worked counts even as Hinds built its lead.

Kendall Hurt pitched four innings, allowing seven runs, four of them earned, on six hits with one walk. LSCPA limited free passes and continued to make defensive adjustments, showing the same resilience that fueled the Game 1 win.

Looking Ahead to Holmes

The Seahawks travel to Holmes Community College in Goodman, Mississippi for a Saturday doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. With the momentum gained from Friday's opener and competitive stretches in Game 2, LSCPA enters the weekend looking to build consistency and continue its upward trend.
