PORT ARTHUR, Texas – Marissa Montoya drove in four runs, and Aubre Fuller pitched two scoreless innings of relief for her second save of the season as the Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks rallied for a 12-8 win over the San Jacinto College Ravens and earned a split of their Region XIV softball doubleheader. San Jacinto held on for a 2-1 win in the opener.

Game 1: San Jacinto 2, LSCPA 1

San Jacinto scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead before the Seahawks responded with an unearned run in the sixth. The Seahawks came close to tying it, but Sierra Perez and J'Lee Vaughn both hit shots that were knocked down at the wall by the wind.

Fuller pitched a complete game for the Seahawks, allowing six hits. Kaelin Hicks picked up a complete-game win for the Ravens, allowing just three hits.

Game 2: LSCPA 12, San Jacinto 8

The Seahawks rallied from deficits of 4-0 and 8-4 to get the win. In addition to Montoya's four RBIs, LSCPA got three hits from Perez and Quinn Zaragoza, while Kari Vasquez drove in three runs.

San Jacinto roared out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, only to see the Seahawks respond with four in the bottom of the inning. The Ravens scored one in the second and three in the fourth to lead 8-4 before LSCPA sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-8 lead. The Seahawks put the game away with three in the bottom of the sixth with Montoy's two-out, two-run single capping the inning.

"We responded well," LSCPA coach Brittany Baker said. "We've got a good fight in us. We didn't give up. We made adjustments. When things weren't going our way, we never quit. I like our fight and our persistence."

With the split, the Seahawks moved to 6-16 overall and 2-2 in regional play. San Jacinto is now 15-20 overall and 1-3 in the region.

"I don't know if I could be happier with how we started region play," Baker said. "We earned a split at Galveston, one of the top teams in the region, and battled to get a split today. We just have to keep it going."

Looking Ahead: The Seahawks are idle until a doubleheader at Angelina College at 1 p.m. March 28 before returning home to host Alvin College for two games at 1 p.m. April 1 at LSCPA's Martin Field.
