LUFKIN, Texas — Lamar State College Port Arthur showed resilience throughout Saturday's doubleheader at Angelina College, pushing the Roadrunners to the final swing in Game 1 before falling 6–5, then battling through a strong pitching performance in a 4–0 Game 2 loss.
LSCPA returns home Wednesday, April 1, for a doubleheader against Alvin Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Martin Field in Port Arthur.
Game 1: Late Rally Stuns Seahawks in 6–5 Walk‑Off
LSCPA controlled much of the opener, building a 5–2 lead behind timely hitting from Jillian Vykukal, who doubled twice and drove in two runs. Alyssa Lewis paced the lineup with a 3‑for‑4 performance, while Abigail Rutherford added two hits as the Seahawks collected 10 total.
Starter Aubre Fuller kept the Roadrunners in check into the seventh, but Angelina pieced together four straight run‑scoring hits in the final frame to escape with the walk‑off.
LSCPA's aggressiveness on the bases—four steals—kept pressure on Angelina throughout.
Game 2: Seahawks Limited in 4–0 Decision
In the second game, Kendall Hurt delivered a steady outing, allowing just two earned runs over six innings. Offensively, LSCPA managed hits from Rutherford and Abigail Moreno, but Angelina's Jessi Sumpter held the Seahawks in check.
